What is Pilates, Where are the classes and what shall I bring along?

Pilates Mat Classes

Pilates is a wonderful method consisting of 5 components. Mat, Reformer Machine, Cadillac Machine, Wunda Chair, Barrels. Together these components fall under the comprehensive system known as Pilates. Most people have only experienced the Mat work as this is more accessible , affordable and sustainable for the client.

I am world wide qualified and trained to teach the full comprehensive method. Some teachers are qualified only as Mat Teachers.

There are 34 exercises in the original “Return to life “ which was created by Joseph Pilates. Today, however, there are many modifications that have been taken from the original 34 exercises which makes the mat exercises much more achievable and safe to practise for first timers .

What to expect from a Mat Class

The Pilates method will stretch , strengthen and realign your entire system. A typical 1 hour beginner session is generally broken down like this :

  • Standing Posture into mobility exercises for the spine and hip

  • Floor strengthening exercises with breathing. Moving the spine, shoulders and learning ribcage placement with core

  • Development Stretches

  • Relaxation to finish
