Pilates Mat Classes which are held in Washington, Tyne and Wear are a great affordable way to look after your mind and body.

Most people who attend are of an age between 40-75yrs old , however there are younger clients who attend but the majority seem to be of a certain age. The reason being is that once we leave our so called younger days behind we can sadly begin to feel that everything is going south including our stomach. This aging body that we find ourselves in can create the feeling of ;

  • AND OF COURSE A WHOLE HOST OF INJURIES.

Why is Pilates so good?

THE BEST AND SAFEST FORM OF FITNESS FOR BACK PAIN, KNEE PAIN, HIP, AND SHOULDER PAIN.

The Pilates Mat classes attract clients for a whole host of reasons: back pain, shoulder pain, neck tension , strengthening up the hips, knees, or improve flexibility and Posture. The list could go and on and that’s because Pilates is the number one referral fitness regime for doctors, consultants, physiotherapists, and Osteopaths to refer their patients to.

You may have been told to “strengthen your core” or even lose weight by your Doctor as the extra weight is what’s causing your back or knee pain in the first place. Pilates can help with a whole host of problems and here’s how the method will help you.

  • Firstly you will learn how to breathe properly and tighten and lift the core muscles so that your abdominals begin to do more work than your back muscles.

  • Pilates is the best way to mobilise your spine. EVERY SINGLE vertebra including your neck

  • Pilates works with your alignment, realigning any underused muscles by firstly bringing them to your attention and then using specific exercises to strengthen the week or lazy muscles.

  • Pilates is the safest way to strengthen up the area surrounding your joints as the movements are isolating, which focuses on the correct function of the muscle during its work stage.



PILATES CLASS SIZE

The Pilates group mat classes have up to 14 people in every session allowing ample space around you to fully stretch out your tight muscles. This group size is easy for me to teach by correcting and realigning your legs, arms or spine should you require correcting. As a Pilates teacher, I know how important it is to be corrected by repositioning your body on the mat so that your body may rebalance uneven sides or muscles.

 

WHAT TO WEAR FOR A PILATES MAT CLASS

WOMAN - should be comfortable in leggings and a vest or T-shirt. There is no need to buy anything special to wear for a Pilates Mat Class when you are starting out, you just need to be comfortable, able to move your legs and arms fully. There are no shoes worn during a Pilates class as we like to feel grounded and connected with bare feet. Some clients buy special socks that have grips on the bottom. Please avoid hoodies though as these tend to gather around our neck and restrict rolling exercises.

MEN -There are  Men currently attending all of the Pilates classes held in Washington and they generally wear, long shorts, jogging pants, and T-shirts.  

GETTING HERE

Washington is a very central area within the North East which allows clients to travel stress-free from Gateshead, Chester le Street, Sunderland, and Durham. Both of the Pilates group class venues held in Washington offer free parking and changing facilities should you wish to travel straight from work to your Pilates Class.
